Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: What the heck is the "Covert Affiliate Pro"? A: Covert Affiliate Pro is a so-called "link cloaking tool". It is supposed to protect your affiliate commissions from being "hijacked". You can get Covert Affiliate Pro from covertaffiliatepro.com. Q: What is "commission hijacking"? A: To track affiliate commissions, a small text file ("cookie") with your affiliate ID is placed on the the prospect's computer when he loads the page. When a purchase is made, this cookie is being referenced to credit the affiliate with his commission. Some affiliate programs like Clickbank make it extremely easy to replace your cookie with the hijacker's - and your comission is gone. Although there's no 100% protection, Covert Affiliate Pro hides your affiliate link making it more difficult for the hijacker to steal your commission. Q: How do I install the Covert Affiliate Pro? A: Just run your downloaded install.exe. If you can't start Covert Affiliate Pro, you also need to download Microsoft's free .NET Framework 2.0. Q: How do I use Covert Affiliate Pro? A: Using Covert Affiliate Pro is pretty straight-forward. First, enter your affiliate link and click the "Cloak Me!" button. Then, click the "Copy To Clipboard" button. You can now paste the created code snippet somewhere on your landing page you use to promote your affiliate program. I recommend pasting it right before the "</body>" tag. Q: The code looks funny. How does Covert Affiliate Pro work? A: Check the demo page: Covert Affiliate Pro uses some encrypted JavaScript code to place the cookie that is associated with your affiliate link. Using such a technique might conflict with the TOS (terms of service) of your affiliate program. Make sure you check the TOS of the program you want to promote before you use the Covert Affiliate Pro - it's solely in your responsibility! Q: Do you have some advice on how I can get the most out of Covert Affiliate Pro? A: ...sure! ;) I'm using Covert Affiliate Pro on my squeeze pages. Usually I want my prospects to subscribe to a list and offer them a report they can't live without. If they can and hit the back button, they get at least cookied so I get credited if they buy later. Another nice one is the review page strategy. Create a nice landing page with the code snippet to cookie your prospect. Write an unintrusive article or review on how xyz supports you to do this and that. Since your prospect already got cookied, you can now safely link to the merchant without using an affiliate link. What about promoting pay per lead programs this way? You could also create several code snippets for different programs and promote them on your landing pages (cookie stuffing). Please be aware that this technique is considered as "black hat" and other affiliates will hate you for doing this (as if you would care)... you decide, I'm not your mother! Sometimes you will encounter a good product with a bad converting sales page. Write your own pre-selling copy and cookie the prospect. Then you put a link directly to the merchant's order page.
